
Since it was founded in1981, the Čakovec Culture Centre has brought to public various authentic cultural and artistic events and programmes and organized numerous guest performances in order to fully provide justification for its comprehensive appellation. Many diverse theatre, ballet and music performances have taken place on the big scene of the Centre, in the hall with capacity of 558 viewers. Films are being shown on daily basis, and On Fridays at 22 and Children's Stand on Sunday are part of a long-time tradition. The freshest tender to numerous interested viewers is the Filmophilia. Many famous and respected visual artists have displayed their works in the Centre's exhibition area which has a status of state gallery.
Theatres from all over Croatia and those coming from abroad perform within Čakovec on Thursdays. Home films are solemnly presented followed by talks with authors and actors.
Ballet performances and concerts of renowned home and foreign musicians also take place on this stand.
The May Music Memorial is dedicated to a composer Josip Štolcer Slavenski, born on 11th May 1896 in Čakovec. Every year eminent musicians perform his pieces which have influenced world musical heritage.
Since 1995 Jazz fair is held in the Centre with performances of jazz musicians from Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, Macedonia, France, the USA and other countries. In the special cycle of concerts viewers can be made acquainted with young musicians from Međimurje – students from music schools and universities. The traditional New Year’s concert of the Croatian Radio television Symphony Orchestra is also a treat in the Centre.
Pinklec is a theatrical troupe in the Centre which cultivates alternative theatrical forms and ways of expression. Professional theatres for children and young people of the Croatian centre ASSITEJ (International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People) annually meet in the Centre and these meetings have gained an international character.
Very appropriate for chamber concerts is the Zrinski hall and therefore the Centre organizes many musical events in the recently restored Scheier building.
The Centre publishes books on visual and musical artists, as well as the monthly magazine Cooltura which informs about the forthcoming cultural events.
